Dr. Graves grew up in Detroit and got involved in interfaith work in college and graduate school. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the relationship of Islam and Christianity, and this later became a book titled How Not to Kill a Muslim: A Manifesto of Hope for Christianity and Islam in North America (Cascade, 2015). He has worked with Dr. Amir Arain (Islamic Center of Nashville and the Faith and Culture Center of Nashville for education and empowerment across diverse religious backgrounds. He has prepared his congregation for loving engagement with Muslims, and their work has been featured on PBS' Religion & Ethics Newsweekly.
